We run Kenya. That is our home turf. But once, in September 2027, we are taking nine riders somewhere completely different: Ladakh, in the Indian Himalayas.

Twelve days. Seventeen high passes. And one summit higher than Everest Base Camp, on a motorbike. This is what makes our India Special Edition special.

1. The Highest Road on Earth

The big one is Umling La, at 5,798m the highest motorable road on the planet. We ride up from Hanle, stand at the top and ride back down via Photi La and its 83 hairpins.

Along the way we cross passes most riders only see on YouTube. Zoji La, Pensi La, Shinku La, Baralacha La, Tanglang La and Khardung La, to name a few. On one day alone we cross four passes above 4,700m.

2. Zanskar, Not Just the Usual Route

Many Ladakh motorbike tours stick to the classic Manali to Leh highway. We go the long way round. From Srinagar and Kargil we ride into the Zanskar Valley, past the Drang Drung Glacier to Padum, then over Shinku La.

Zanskar is rough, remote and barely developed. Exactly the kind of riding we love.

3. Lakes, Deserts and Dark Skies

Nubra Valley. Sand dunes & the Shyok River gorge, high in the mountains.

Pangong Tso. A night in a tented camp by the lake at 4,225m. Bring the warm socks.

Hanle. India’s first Dark Sky Reserve. The best stargazing of your life.

Srinagar. We start with a night on a heritage houseboat on Dal Lake.

4. The Right Bike for the Job

In Kenya we ride Kibo 250s. Ladakh needs more bike. Everyone rides a Royal Enfield Himalayan 450: 40hp, long travel suspension and the machine half of India uses to cross these passes.

Your luggage travels in the backup truck. You just ride.

5. Serious Support at Serious Altitude

Altitude is the real challenge up here. So the support is built around it:

A rest & acclimatisation day in Leh before the highest sections

Oxygen, SpO2 & blood pressure monitors in the support vehicle

A backup truck with mechanic, plus a support SUV

Road captains who know every pass

The option to ride in the truck if you need a break

Ready to Ride With Us?

Small groups, your own bike and a crew right behind you. Kenya or India, pick your adventure.

See the 2027 tours

6. Same Crew, New Mountains

We are not pretending to be Ladakh experts. For this edition we team up with an established Ladakh operator, with the local knowledge, bikes, mechanics and permits these passes need.

Raj and Hidde lead the group, same as always. Same vibe too: small group, good food, stories at the end of every day and friends by the end of it. Our Kenya riders gave us 5.0 out of 5 on Google. For India we are going all in to top that.

7. It Only Happens Once

This is a one time Special Edition. Nine spots. When they are gone, they are gone.

Is the India Special Edition for You?

You have some off road experience & are happy on loose surfaces for long stretches

You are fit enough for long days at altitude. The longest day is 336 km

You care more about the riding than about ticking off sights

Not sure? Get in touch. We will jump on a video call, talk through the days and work out together whether this one is for you.

Good to Know

When: September 2027, the dry season in Ladakh. Exact dates coming soon.

Where: Starts in Srinagar, ends in Leh.

Group: Max 9 riders.

Paperwork: Indian eVisa, national licence plus International Driving Permit & travel insurance.

Kenya is one of the best places in Africa to ride a motorbike. Red dirt tracks, the Great Rift Valley, giraffe next to the road and Kilimanjaro on the horizon. It is also a place that rewards riders who come prepared.

This guide is what we tell our own friends before they ride here. Roads, safety, fuel, water, the rules nobody writes down and the mindset that makes it all work. Whether you ride with a tour or go it alone.

What Are the Roads Like in Kenya?

You get everything, sometimes in one morning.

Tarmac highways. Mostly good, but busy with trucks, buses and matatus (minibus taxis). Expect potholes, even on main roads.

Speed bumps. Every village has them, and many are not marked. Locals call them sleeping policemen. They will wake you up.

Murram roads. Red gravel and dirt, the backbone of rural Kenya. Great fun when dry. Corrugated in places.

Sand and fesh fesh. Fine dust that hides ruts and rocks underneath. Weight back, gas on, stay loose.

Black cotton soil. Hard as concrete when dry. After rain it turns into grease. If it has rained, take another route or wait.

More detail in our guide to riding terrain in Kenya.

Is It Safe to Ride a Motorbike in Kenya?

Yes, if you ride smart. The biggest risks are not wild animals or crime. They are traffic, road surface and fatigue. A few rules keep you out of trouble.

Never ride after dark

This is the big one. Kenya sits on the equator, so the sun sets around half past six all year round. After that you share the road with unlit trucks, cyclists, pedestrians, livestock and potholes you cannot see. Plan every day so you are parked with a cold drink before sunset.

Assume nobody has seen you

Kenya drives on the left. Matatus stop wherever they like and overtaking on blind bends is a national sport. Keep your lights on, leave space and give big vehicles room. On the highway, the biggest vehicle wins. Every time.

Watch for animals

Goats, cattle, donkeys and the odd zebra wander onto the road without warning. Near herders, slow down. Where there is one goat, there are twenty more behind the bush.

Wear proper gear

Yes, it is hot. Wear it anyway. A good helmet, boots, gloves and a vented jacket with armour. Add goggles or a buff for the dust.

Want the longer answer? Read Is it safe to ride a motorbike in Kenya?

Fuel, Water and Spares

Out here, the basics matter more than the bike.

Fuel. Towns have stations, remote areas often do not. Check your route before you leave and fill up every chance you get. On long stretches, carry extra fuel. Some small stations only take cash or M-Pesa, so keep Kenyan shillings on you.

Water. Always carry at least two litres. Heat and dust dry you out faster than you notice, and a breakdown in the bush can mean a long wait.

Tools and spares. A puncture kit, pump, tyre levers and a few basic tools. Kenya runs on small motorbikes, so there is a boda boda mechanic in almost every village. They can fix nearly anything with wire and patience.

Navigation. Download offline maps. On dirt roads, Google Maps is optimistic at best. Ask locals, they know which road is actually open.

Paperwork and Police Checks

Carry your driving licence, an International Driving Permit and the bike papers. Police checkpoints are normal on main roads. Stay friendly, stay patient and keep your documents in one easy pocket. Check that your travel insurance covers motorbike riding, including the engine size you will ride.

Also good to know: motorbikes are not allowed inside most Kenyan national parks. The best wildlife riding happens on the roads around them, in conservancies and on community land.

When Is the Best Time to Ride?

Kenya has two rainy seasons. The long rains fall roughly from March to May, the short rains around October to December. On dirt roads, that makes a big difference. June to September is dry, green and cooler, which is why we ride in June. Full breakdown in our month by month guide.

Rather Ride With a Crew Behind You?

Small groups, your own bike, a support vehicle and a mechanic. We sort the route, fuel and beds. You just ride.

See the 2027 tours

Pole Pole: Take Your Time

In Swahili, pole pole means slowly slowly. It might be the best riding advice in Africa.

Kenya is not a place to chase kilometres. Stop for the kids who wave at you. Stop at the viewpoint. Stop when a giraffe crosses the road, because it will. The riders who enjoy Kenya most are the ones who ride a bit slower and look around a lot more.

Overlanders have a line for it: prepare for everything, expect nothing. The road will change, the plan will change, the weather will change. Roll with it. That is the adventure.

Riding Kenya on Your Own or With a Tour?

Both work. It depends on your time, your experience and how much sorting out you want to do.

On your own. Maximum freedom, lower cost. But you arrange the bike, the route, the stays, the permits and the back up plan yourself. Best if you have time and some experience riding in Africa.

With a guided tour. Someone who knows the roads leads the way. A support vehicle carries luggage, fuel and spares. You spend your energy on riding, not on logistics.

If you go for a tour, ask these questions before you book:

Group size. Small is better. Fewer riders means more riding and less waiting.

Support. Is there a support vehicle and a mechanic with the group?

Who leads. Do the guides actually ride these roads themselves?

Off road share. Some tours are mostly tarmac. Ask for the percentage.

What is included. Fuel, meals and transfers add up fast if they are extra.

That is how we built our own Safari Loop: eight days, around 80% off the tarmac, max eight riders and a crew right behind you. Riding elsewhere in Africa too? Read why Kenya is the best place to start.

Quick Answers

Which side of the road does Kenya drive on?

The left, like the UK.

Do I need off road experience to ride in Kenya?

You do not need to be an expert. If you are comfortable on gravel and loose roads, you will be fine on most routes. Take it slow on sand and never ride wet black cotton soil.

Can I ride a motorbike in Kenya’s national parks?

In most parks, no. Plan your wildlife riding around the parks, in conservancies and on community land.

Can I pay for fuel by card?

In towns, usually yes. In rural areas, bring cash or M-Pesa.

Ready for the Trip of a Lifetime?

Two tours in 2027. The Safari Loop in Kenya and a one time Special Edition in India. Max eight riders in Kenya, nine in India.

On a motorbike tour in Kenya, the weather decides a lot. Dry murram is fast and fun. Wet murram is a slippery red paste. So when should you go?

Short answer: outside the two rainy seasons. Long answer below, month by month.

Kenya’s Seasons in a Nutshell

Long rains: roughly late March or April to early June. The heaviest rain of the year.

Short rains: roughly November to early December. Lighter, often in afternoon showers.

Dry seasons: mid December to March & June to October.

Kenya sits on the equator, but much of the riding is at altitude. The highlands around Nairobi and the Rift Valley stay mild, with cool mornings and warm afternoons. Pack a fleece.

Every year is a little different, so treat this as a guide, not a promise.

Why We Ride in June

Our Safari Loop runs in June, and that is on purpose.

The land is green. The long rains have just finished, so the Rift Valley & the savannah look their best.

Less dust. The ground still holds some moisture, so the tracks are firm without the thick dust of later in the year.

Cooler riding. Comfortable temperatures in full riding gear.

Fewer crowds. It is before the busy migration season in the parks.

What About the Great Migration?

The wildebeest migration usually reaches the Maasai Mara somewhere between July and October. Spectacular, but the Mara is also at its busiest and most expensive then. On a motorbike you see plenty of wildlife anyway, right from the saddle. Zebra, giraffe, antelope and ostrich are part of the daily scenery on our routes.

Riding in the Rain: What to Expect

Even in dry season, a shower can surprise you. When it does:

Murram turns slippery fast. Slow down, stay loose & keep off the front brake.

Black cotton soil gets extremely sticky. Sometimes the answer is to wait an hour.

River crossings can rise quickly. Never cross without checking first.

More on surfaces in our guide to riding terrain in Kenya.

Pick Your Dates

Our 2027 Safari Loop runs from Saturday 12 to Saturday 19 June 2027. Eight spots, fully organised and timed for the best riding of the year. See the tour or read the practical guide to riding a motorbike in Kenya.

You have decided to ride Kenya. Brilliant. Now the boring bit: paperwork, insurance and packing.

Good news: it is not complicated. Here is everything you need to sort before your motorcycle trip to Kenya, in one place.

1. Entry: Kenya’s eTA

Most visitors need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) before they fly. It replaced the old visa system in 2024.

Apply online at the official site: etakenya.go.ke. Avoid lookalike sites that charge extra.

Apply at least 3 days before you travel. You can apply up to 90 days ahead.

Expect a fee of around US$30.

Since May 2025, most African passport holders & East African Community citizens are exempt.

Rules change, so always check the official site before you book flights.

2. Your Driving Licence

Bring your national driving licence with a motorcycle category, plus an International Driving Permit. Both, not one or the other.

Traffic in Kenya drives on the left. If you are coming from mainland Europe, give it a few kilometres. On most of our route there is very little traffic anyway.

3. Travel Insurance

Get travel insurance that clearly covers motorcycling abroad, including off road riding. Check the engine size limit too. Many standard policies stop at 125cc. Read the small print or call your insurer.

4. Health

Talk to a travel clinic well before you go about vaccinations & malaria prevention.

Bring your own medication, with enough spare.

Pack sunscreen. The equator sun is no joke, even when it feels cool.

5. Money

The local currency is the Kenyan shilling. Cards work in cities and lodges. Mobile money (M-Pesa) is everywhere. On our tours, meals, fuel and beds are covered, so you only need cash for drinks, tips and souvenirs.

Ready to Ride With Us?

Small groups, your own bike and a crew right behind you. Kenya or India, pick your adventure.

See the 2027 tours

6. Flights

Fly into Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) in Nairobi. There are direct flights from several European cities and plenty of connections through the Middle East. On our tours we pick you up at the airport.

7. What to Pack

Keep it light. Your bag rides in the support vehicle, not on your bike.

Riding gear: helmet, gloves, jacket, riding trousers with knee protection, sturdy boots.

Clothes: long sleeves for dusty days, a buff, a fleece for cool mornings, a light rain jacket.

Essentials: hydration pack, sunglasses, sunscreen, toiletries, power bank.

Full list on our Bikes & Equipment page.

8. Bringing Your Own Bike?

Riding into Kenya on your own motorbike is a different story. You will need paperwork for temporary import, such as a Carnet de Passages, plus local third party insurance. We rode in ourselves from South Africa. Read how that went and ask us anything.

Your Pre Trip Checklist

Passport valid for at least 6 months

eTA approved

Driving licence with motorcycle category

International Driving Permit

Travel insurance that covers motorcycling

Travel clinic visit done

Flights to Nairobi booked

Riding gear packed

Want It All Sorted?

Africa is on almost every adventure rider’s list. The problem? It is enormous. 54 countries, deserts, jungles, mountains and a lot of very long roads.

So where do you start? This guide covers the best places for a motorbike tour in Africa, what to look for in a tour and why we think Kenya is the perfect first ride.

The Best Countries for Motorbike Tours in Africa

Every region rides differently. A quick overview:

Morocco. Close to Europe. Atlas mountains, desert pistes & the edge of the Sahara.

South Africa. Great tarmac, famous mountain passes & good infrastructure. A classic starting point for trans Africa rides.

Namibia. Endless gravel, huge empty spaces & very few people. Big distances between fuel stops.

Tanzania. Kilimanjaro, highlands & long stretches between towns.

Kenya. Savannah, the Great Rift Valley, wildlife next to the track & a huge mix of terrain in a small area.

All great. But for a first African motorbike tour, one of them ticks the most boxes.

Why Kenya Is the Best Place to Start

1. You ride with the wildlife

This is the big one. In Kenya you pass zebra, giraffe and antelope from the saddle. No jeep, no windscreen, no crowd of minibuses. Just you, the bike and the animals.

2. So much variety, so little distance

Volcanic gorges, lakes, savannah, forest and highland farmland. You do not need 500 km days to see it all. That leaves time to actually enjoy it.

3. It is easy to get to

Nairobi is one of Africa’s biggest air hubs, with direct flights from Europe. English is widely spoken, alongside Swahili. Less hassle, more riding.

4. The riding is proper off road

Red murram, gravel, sand and fesh fesh. Challenging enough to be exciting, forgiving enough for riders who mostly ride tarmac at home. More in our Kenya terrain guide.

5. Local bikes, local know how

We ride the Kibo 250, built in Kenya for Kenyan roads. Parts and mechanics are never far away, so a breakdown is a short stop, not the end of your day.

Ready to Ride With Us?

Small groups, your own bike and a crew right behind you. Kenya or India, pick your adventure.

See the 2027 tours

What to Look For in an Africa Motorbike Tour

Not all tours are equal. Before you book, ask:

How big is the group? Big groups mean waiting & dust. We cap ours at eight riders.

Is there a support vehicle & a mechanic? In Africa, this is not optional.

How much is off road? Our Safari Loop is around 80% off the tarmac.

Who are the guides? You want people who know the roads, the people & the plan B.

What is included? Bike, fuel, meals, beds & transfers should all be in the price.

What is the vibe? Racing or exploring? Cold company business or a crew that becomes your mates?

Guided Tour or Solo Overland?

Riding across Africa on your own bike is the dream for a lot of riders. We did it ourselves, from South Africa to Kenya. Read the story of that ride.

But it takes weeks, a lot of paperwork and serious planning. A guided tour gives you the best roads and the full experience in about a week, with everything sorted. You just ride.

Start Your African Adventure in Kenya

Safari MotoXpedition is small, personal and built around riding. A few tours a year, max eight riders, fully organised and a lot of fun. Read our practical guide to riding a motorbike in Kenya or go straight to the 2027 tours.

Every good idea needs a starting line. Ours was Lydenburg, a small town in Mpumalanga, South Africa. These days it is called Mashishing.

From there, Raj and Hidde pointed two motorbikes north. Five countries and roughly 5,000 km later, they rolled into Doc’s Eco Camp just outside Nairobi. Somewhere along the way, Safari MotoXpedition was born.

This is the route, the stops we loved and what we learned. Planning your own South Africa to Kenya motorbike trip? Read on. Got questions? Ask us. The form is at the bottom of this page.

The Route at a Glance

Country

Where we stopped

South Africa

Lydenburg (Mashishing), Mbombela (Nelspruit), Marloth Park

Mozambique

Along the coast, Tofo Beach, Vilankulo, Chimoio, Tete

Malawi

Monkey Bay, Mbalame, Nkhata Bay, Chilumba

Tanzania

Mbeya, Dodoma, Arusha

Kenya

Doc’s Eco Camp, Kitengela

South Africa: Mountain Roads to the Edge of Kruger

We left Lydenburg on some of the most famous riding roads in the country. Sweeping passes, pine forests and big views all the way down to Nelspruit.

First night: Marloth Park, right on the southern border of Kruger National Park. Zebra, kudu and warthog wander between the houses. Not a bad way to start a trip across Africa.

Mozambique: Coast, Rum and Long Roads North

The next morning we crossed into Mozambique and turned for the coast. No rush. We stopped a few nights along the way.

Tofo Beach was the highlight. Warm water, cold drinks and good people. Some of our best memories of the whole ride are from there.

Next up: Vilankulo, where we discovered Tipo Tinto. It is the local rum and it goes down far too easily. Consider yourself warned.

Then the road turns inland. A night in Chimoio, then on to Tete on the Zambezi River before the border with Malawi.

Riding tips for Mozambique

Carry cash in meticais for fuel & small stops.

Expect police checkpoints. Keep your papers handy & stay friendly.

Ride in daylight. Potholes & goats are hard to spot after dark.

Planning Your Own Ride Through Africa?

Questions about borders, roads or where to sleep? Ask us. We have been there and are happy to help.

Send us a messageDM us on Instagram

Malawi: The Lake of Stars

Malawi is small, friendly and built around one giant lake. We needed a break, so we parked up at Monkey Bay for a few nights and did very little.

Then north along the lake to Mbalame and Fish Eagle Bay Lodge. A beautiful spot. Sunrise over the water and zero reason to leave.

Nkhata Bay came next, then Chilumba. There we heard we had just missed Itchy Boots, the famous YouTube motorbike traveller. Timing is everything.

Tanzania: Highlands, the Capital and Arusha

From the north of Malawi we crossed into Tanzania and climbed to Mbeya in the southern highlands. Then a long haul to Dodoma, the capital, and on to Arusha.

Arusha is beautiful. Green, lively and right under Mount Meru. We stayed a few days and could have stayed a lot longer.

Kenya: Straight to Doc’s

From Arusha it is a short hop to the Kenyan border. We rode straight to Doc’s Eco Camp in Kitengela, just outside Nairobi.

Hot showers, cold beers, a sunset deck and people who understand what it means to arrive after weeks on the road. It became our home base. It still is.

How This Ride Became Safari MotoXpedition

Somewhere between the rum in Vilankulo and the last border, one thought kept coming back. More people should ride Africa like this. On a bike, off the beaten track, with good company at the end of every day.

Most riders do not have weeks to cross a continent. So we built the short version. Kenya’s best roads, a support vehicle and mechanic right behind you and never more than eight riders. That is Safari MotoXpedition.

See our 2027 tours

Tips for Riding South Africa to Kenya Yourself

Bike paperwork. Check early whether you need a Carnet de Passages or a temporary import permit for each country.

Insurance. Buy third party cover at the borders, or get a COMESA Yellow Card where it is accepted.

Visas. Rules change, so check every country before you leave. Kenya asks most visitors for an eTA. More on that in our Kenya trip planning guide.

Cash. Carry US dollars plus local currency. Card machines are rare off the main roads.

Fuel. Fill up whenever you can, especially in rural Mozambique & Tanzania.

Daylight only. Plan your days so you are parked before dark.

Rest days. Build them in. Monkey Bay & Arusha were ours & we needed both.

In Kenya? Come Say Hi at Doc’s

Riding through Nairobi? Stop at Doc’s Eco Camp in Kitengela, 45 minutes from the city. It is built for overlanders: workshop, parking, hot showers, an open air bar and a kitchen that knows what hungry riders need. Tell them we sent you.

Or skip the planning and ride Kenya with us. Check out the Safari Loop. Max eight riders.

Explore Gravel, Fesh Fesh and Red Dirt Roads in Kenya

Kenya isn’t just beautiful. It’s a rider’s paradise.

The country is packed with diverse terrain: dusty plains, forest tracks, rolling hills, and more. Each region brings something different. Our routes are designed to show you the most stunning, exciting, and remote areas possible.

Not every tour covers all types of terrain, but these are the main surfaces you’ll encounter across Kenya. Each one brings its own style of adventure.

1. Murram Roads (Kenya’s Classic Red Dirt Tracks)

Murram roads are compacted red clay and form the backbone of Kenya’s rural routes. They ride beautifully when dry and get tricky when wet.

Expect:

Fast, flowing sections with great visibility

Good grip in dry conditions, sticky when it rains

Endless scenery and that signature red dust

2. Gravel Roads (Loose, Rough, and Scenic)

Gravel varies from smooth to chunky and shows up most in remote or hilly areas. These roads add a bit of technical edge to your ride.

Expect:

Loose stones, some ruts or bumps

Fun, challenging sections

Wide open views of the landscape

3. Fesh Fesh (Fine, Powdery Dust — Kenya’s Secret Sauce)

Fesh fesh is a soft, powdery dust that looks solid but behaves like deep sand. It’s a favourite in rally racing and a real test for riders.

Expect:

Wobbling and floating like you’re on talcum powder

Slow, steady control needed

Serious rally vibes, with coaching from our crew

We guide you through it and prepare you well. It’s usually a highlight for those who enjoy a little thrill.

Ready to Ride With Us?

4. Tarmac (Smooth Sections Between the Adventure)

Yes, we also ride tarmac in Kenya. And it adds a lot to the journey.

Some stretches are older and full of potholes, which keeps things interesting. Others are fresh, smooth, and perfect for cruising while soaking up the views.

Expect:

Winding roads through mountains, farms, and coastlines

Bumpy bits that keep you alert

That smooth rhythm of leaning into the curves

Tarmac isn’t just a connection from A to B. We choose these sections to enhance the ride.

5. Trail and Bush Riding (Our Private Access Routes)

Thanks to strong local connections, we have access to places few others can reach — including forest paths, hidden wildlife routes, and old service roads.

Expect:

Epic scenery

Wildlife encounters

That real “off-the-map” feeling

This is what makes Safari MotoXpedition stand out. These are routes you won’t find on any other trip.

Ride Smart, Ride Free — With a Team That Knows the Land

Every route we build balances variety, safety, and excitement. Some trips stick to fast, open roads. Others head deeper into technical, off-road terrain. But no matter the mix, it’s always doable and always memorable.

You don’t need to be a pro. You just need to love riding and be up for an unforgettable adventure.

Join the Ride of a Lifetime

From red clay tracks and rally dust to peaceful trails and open tarmac — Kenya offers some of the most exciting riding terrain in the world.

You bring the adventure mindset.
We’ll handle the rest.

These are not tourist roads. These are real adventure routes designed for riders who want something special.

2. Adventure Riding With Full Support

You will get dust on your boots, the wind in your face, and adrenaline in your veins.
But safety is always part of the ride.

Our founder is a rally sport veteran and a medical doctor. Safety is second nature to us, and it never comes at the cost of freedom.

3. You Ride Your Own Bike, Every Day

This is your bike. Your journey.
You will ride a Kibo 250 that is built for Kenyan terrain.
Whether it is red murram roads, forest tracks, or coastal curves, you are in control the whole way.

Feel the shift in terrain. Lean into every curve. Own every kilometer.

4. Epic Days Followed by Unforgettable Nights

Is it safe to ride a motorbike in Kenya? The honest answer, plus how we handle traffic, wildlife, terrain and backup on every tour.

Here’s How We Keep It Safe but Adventurous

Let’s be clear:
Our trips are not for people who want to sit in air conditioning all day.
You’ll get dust on your face, wind in your helmet, and adrenaline in your veins.
But don’t worry — there’ll also be cold beers, beautiful lodges, and amazing food waiting at the end of the day.

We believe the best adventures are the ones where you feel alive and looked after.
And after 15+ years of riding all across Africa and especially Kenya, we’ve made that balance part of everything we do.

15 Years of Riding Kenya — We Know What We’re Doing

We’ve been riding motorbikes through Kenya for over 15 years.
Not once. Not twice. Over and over.
This isn’t just a job — it’s a way of life for us.

Our founder is not only a seasoned rider, but also a doctor involved in rally sports, with deep experience in risk management, emergency response, and yes — what to do when things don’t go according to plan (which rarely happens).

With our local team and years of experience, we know where to go, and where not to go.
And that makes all the difference.

Small Groups, Smart Briefings, and a Leader Up Front

Every day starts with a briefing: terrain, weather, wildlife zones, riding tips, and group plans.
No surprises.

We always ride in a tight group with an experienced leader at the front.
That way, you can relax and focus on the ride while we handle the logistics and safety.
And just in case — there’s a support vehicle behind us, carrying your luggage and backup gear.

This is still an adventure — but it’s a controlled and supported one.

Ready to Ride With Us?

Small groups, your own bike and a crew right behind you. Kenya or India, pick your adventure.

See the 2027 tours

Wildlife? It’s Wild — But We Know Where to Ride

Yes, Kenya is full of wildlife — and that’s part of what makes it so breathtaking.
But you won’t be attacked by a lion immediately.

In the national parks, where large animals could pose a risk, we switch to a 4×4 vehicle for just a half-day or so, so you can still enjoy the parks safely and comfortably.
It’s planned. It’s safe. And it’s all part of the experience.

And by the way: locals ride motorbikes everywhere — even in areas tourists rarely go.
We ride smart, we ride together, and we ride where it’s safe.

What About Heat, Malaria, and the Usual Travel Worries?

Good questions — and we’ve got answers.

Heatstroke? We hydrate, take breaks, and time the rides to avoid midday heat.

Malaria? We give you straight advice on prevention, meds, and what areas to watch.

Health risks? We ride with a plan, and we’re always prepared.

You won’t feel like a fragile tourist — you’ll feel like part of the crew.

And Yes — You’ll Still Enjoy Comfort, Cocktails, and a Cold Beer

Just because this is an adventure doesn’t mean we’re roughing it 24/7.

You’ll ride hard, yes — but you’ll also sleep in stunning lodges, eat great food, and end the day with a cold Tusker or fresh cocktail in hand.

Adventure and comfort aren’t opposites — we bring them together.

Ride the Real Kenya. With Confidence.

This isn’t a holiday where you follow a flag and hop in and out of a tour bus.
This is a real journey — on two wheels, off the beaten path, and with a team who’s done this for years.

So yes, it’s absolutely safe — because we’ve built every route, every briefing, and every ride to be that way.

And also?
It’s one hell of an adventure.

Forget the Tourist Trail. Ride Your Own Adventure

Most tourists land in Nairobi, get picked up in an air-conditioned safari vehicle, and drive through a few beautiful parks. Comfortable? Yes. Exciting? Not really.

At Safari MotoXpedition, we offer something completely different: A real motorbike safari across Kenya — riding your own bike through wild landscapes, hidden villages, and off the beaten tourist path.

This is not sightseeing behind a window. This is living the adventure.

1. Ride Yourself Through Kenya’s Wildest Landscapes

With us, you’re not just watching — you’re riding. Every mile, every terrain change, every new horizon — you experience it yourself. Our tours take you through dusty trails, rocky mountains, lush forests, and coastal plains — all on your own bike.

You’re not stuck behind glass — you’re part of the story.

2. Expert Routes Far Away from Tourist Crowds

We don’t just wing it. Our routes are carefully crafted by local experts to take you into areas no other tourists reach. Small villages, wild savannahs, mountain passes — places big safari trucks simply can’t go.

This is the Kenya you won’t find in a guidebook.

3. A Deeper, Rawer Connection with Nature

On a motorbike, you don’t just see Kenya — you feel it. You smell the fresh earth after rain. You hear the calls of distant wildlife. You feel the warmth of the sun and the cool breeze of the highlands.

It’s a connection that no air-conditioned vehicle can offer.

4. Travel with Like-Minded Adventurers

You won’t be stuck with a random group of tourists just ticking off their safari checklist. Our tours attract riders, explorers, and adventurers — people who want to live the journey, not just watch it.

Small groups. Big adventures. Real connections.

5. Reach Places Big Safari Vehicles Can’t

Big safari vans are made for the main roads. Our bikes are made for everything else. We reach remote areas, hidden viewpoints, and authentic villages that no 4×4 tour can access.

And yes — while we do sometimes switch to a 4×4 inside national parks when needed, the bike remains your main ride to adventure.

6. The Motorbike Is the Ultimate Safari Machine

We ride the Kibo 250 — a bike built specifically for Kenya’s rugged terrain. It’s tough, reliable, and ready for every challenge you throw at it. The perfect tool for an adventure that’s real, raw, and unforgettable.

7. Create the Story of a Lifetime

Anyone can book a safari. But riding across Kenya on a motorbike? That’s a story few can tell.

From the wild savannahs to misty mountains to the tropical coast, this is a journey that will stay with you forever.

You won’t just visit Kenya — you’ll live it.

Ready to Ride the Real Kenya?

If you’re looking for a safari that’s safe, easy, and boring — this isn’t it. But if you’re ready for real adventure, wild landscapes, and experiences that few travelers ever have, you’re in the right place.
