Motorbike Tours in Kenya: Explore Gravel, Fesh Fesh, and Red Dirt Roads

Kenya isn’t just beautiful. It’s a rider’s paradise.

The country is packed with diverse terrain: dusty plains, forest tracks, rolling hills, and more. Each region brings something different. Our routes are designed to show you the most stunning, exciting, and remote areas possible.

Not every tour covers all types of terrain, but these are the main surfaces you’ll encounter across Kenya. Each one brings its own style of adventure.

1. Murram Roads (Kenya’s Classic Red Dirt Tracks)

Murram roads are compacted red clay and form the backbone of Kenya’s rural routes. They ride beautifully when dry and get tricky when wet.

Expect:

Fast, flowing sections with great visibility

Good grip in dry conditions, sticky when it rains

Endless scenery and that signature red dust

2. Gravel Roads (Loose, Rough, and Scenic)

Gravel varies from smooth to chunky and shows up most in remote or hilly areas. These roads add a bit of technical edge to your ride.

Expect:

Loose stones, some ruts or bumps

Fun, challenging sections

Wide open views of the landscape

3. Fesh Fesh (Fine, Powdery Dust — Kenya’s Secret Sauce)

Fesh fesh is a soft, powdery dust that looks solid but behaves like deep sand. It’s a favourite in rally racing and a real test for riders.

Expect:

Wobbling and floating like you’re on talcum powder

Slow, steady control needed

Serious rally vibes, with coaching from our crew

We guide you through it and prepare you well. It’s usually a highlight for those who enjoy a little thrill.

4. Tarmac (Smooth Sections Between the Adventure)

Yes, we also ride tarmac in Kenya. And it adds a lot to the journey.

Some stretches are older and full of potholes, which keeps things interesting. Others are fresh, smooth, and perfect for cruising while soaking up the views.

Expect:

Winding roads through mountains, farms, and coastlines

Bumpy bits that keep you alert

That smooth rhythm of leaning into the curves

Tarmac isn’t just a connection from A to B. We choose these sections to enhance the ride.

5. Trail & Bush Riding (Our Private Access Routes)

Thanks to strong local connections, we have access to places few others can reach — including forest paths, hidden wildlife routes, and old service roads.

Expect:

Epic scenery

Wildlife encounters

That real “off-the-map” feeling

This is what makes Safari MotoXpedition stand out. These are routes you won’t find on any other trip.

Ride Smart, Ride Free — With a Team That Knows the Land

Every route we build balances variety, safety, and excitement. Some trips stick to fast, open roads. Others head deeper into technical, off-road terrain. But no matter the mix, it’s always doable and always memorable.

You don’t need to be a pro. You just need to love riding and be up for an unforgettable adventure.

Join the Ride of a Lifetime

From red clay tracks and rally dust to peaceful trails and open tarmac — Kenya offers some of the most exciting riding terrain in the world.

You bring the adventure mindset.
We’ll handle the rest.

At Safari MotoXpedition, we do things differently.
This is not a passive safari where you sit back and watch.
This is your own ride, on a Kibo 250 motorbike, through Kenya’s most stunning and remote landscapes. It is the perfect mix of wild adventure, comfort, and unforgettable moments.

Here is what makes our motorbike safaris in Kenya so unique:

1. Ride Routes No One Else Can Access

Our routes are built with local insight and deep-rooted access.
We ride through private lands, off-grid areas, and scenic routes that are not available to most travelers.
Expect to cross community zones, remote valleys, and hidden tracks that seem made for two wheels.

These are not tourist roads. These are real adventure routes designed for riders who want something special.

You will get dust on your boots, the wind in your face, and adrenaline in your veins.
But safety is always part of the ride.

We include:

This is your bike. Your journey.
You will ride a Kibo 250 that is built for Kenyan terrain.
Whether it is red murram roads, forest tracks, or coastal curves, you are in control the whole way.

Feel the shift in terrain. Lean into every curve. Own every kilometer.

Here’s How We Keep It Safe but Adventurous

Let’s be clear:
Our trips are not for people who want to sit in air conditioning all day.
You’ll get dust on your face, wind in your helmet, and adrenaline in your veins.
But don’t worry — there’ll also be cold beers, beautiful lodges, and amazing food waiting at the end of the day.

We believe the best adventures are the ones where you feel alive and looked after.
And after 15+ years of riding all across Africa and especially Kenya, we’ve made that balance part of everything we do.

15 Years of Riding Kenya — We Know What We’re Doing

We’ve been riding motorbikes through Kenya for over 15 years.
Not once. Not twice. Over and over.
This isn’t just a job — it’s a way of life for us.

Our founder is not only a seasoned rider, but also a doctor involved in rally sports, with deep experience in risk management, emergency response, and yes — what to do when things don’t go according to plan (which rarely happens).

With our local team and years of experience, we know where to go, and where not to go.
And that makes all the difference.

Small Groups, Smart Briefings, and a Leader Up Front

Every day starts with a briefing: terrain, weather, wildlife zones, riding tips, and group plans.
No surprises.

We always ride in a tight group with an experienced leader at the front.
That way, you can relax and focus on the ride while we handle the logistics and safety.
And just in case — there’s a support vehicle behind us, carrying your luggage and backup gear.

This is still an adventure — but it’s a controlled and supported one.

Wildlife? It’s Wild — But We Know Where to Ride

Yes, Kenya is full of wildlife — and that’s part of what makes it so breathtaking.
But you won’t be attacked by a lion immediately.

In the national parks, where large animals could pose a risk, we switch to a 4×4 vehicle for just a half-day or so, so you can still enjoy the parks safely and comfortably.
It’s planned. It’s safe. And it’s all part of the experience.

And by the way: locals ride motorbikes everywhere — even in areas tourists rarely go.
We ride smart, we ride together, and we ride where it’s safe.

What About Heat, Malaria, and the Usual Travel Worries?

Good questions — and we’ve got answers.

Heatstroke? We hydrate, take breaks, and time the rides to avoid midday heat.

Malaria? We give you straight advice on prevention, meds, and what areas to watch.

Health risks? We ride with a plan, and we’re always prepared.

You won’t feel like a fragile tourist — you’ll feel like part of the crew.

And Yes — You’ll Still Enjoy Comfort, Cocktails, and a Cold Beer

Just because this is an adventure doesn’t mean we’re roughing it 24/7.

You’ll ride hard, yes — but you’ll also sleep in stunning lodges, eat great food, and end the day with a cold Tusker or fresh cocktail in hand.

Adventure and comfort aren’t opposites — we bring them together.

Ride the Real Kenya. With Confidence.

This isn’t a holiday where you follow a flag and hop in and out of a tour bus.
This is a real journey — on two wheels, off the beaten path, and with a team who’s done this for years.

So yes, it’s absolutely safe — because we’ve built every route, every briefing, and every ride to be that way.

And also?
It’s one hell of an adventure.

Forget the Tourist Trail — Ride Your Own Adventure

Most tourists land in Nairobi, get picked up in an air-conditioned safari vehicle, and drive through a few beautiful parks. Comfortable? Yes. Exciting? Not really.

At Safari MotoXpedition, we offer something completely different: A real motorbike safari across Kenya — riding your own bike through wild landscapes, hidden villages, and off the beaten tourist path.

This is not sightseeing behind a window. This is living the adventure.

1. Ride Yourself Through Kenya’s Wildest Landscapes

With us, you’re not just watching — you’re riding. Every mile, every terrain change, every new horizon — you experience it yourself. Our tours take you through dusty trails, rocky mountains, lush forests, and coastal plains — all on your own bike.

You’re not stuck behind glass — you’re part of the story.

2. Expert Routes Far Away from Tourist Crowds

We don’t just wing it. Our routes are carefully crafted by local experts to take you into areas no other tourists reach. Small villages, wild savannahs, mountain passes — places big safari trucks simply can’t go.

This is the Kenya you won’t find in a guidebook.

3. A Deeper, Rawer Connection with Nature

On a motorbike, you don’t just see Kenya — you feel it. You smell the fresh earth after rain. You hear the calls of distant wildlife. You feel the warmth of the sun and the cool breeze of the highlands.

It’s a connection that no air-conditioned vehicle can offer.

4. Travel with Like-Minded Adventurers

You won’t be stuck with a random group of tourists just ticking off their safari checklist. Our tours attract riders, explorers, and adventurers — people who want to live the journey, not just watch it.

Small groups. Big adventures. Real connections.

5. Reach Places Big Safari Vehicles Can’t

Big safari vans are made for the main roads. Our bikes are made for everything else. We reach remote areas, hidden viewpoints, and authentic villages that no 4×4 tour can access.

And yes — while we do sometimes switch to a 4×4 inside national parks when needed, the bike remains your main ride to adventure.

6. The Motorbike Is the Ultimate Safari Machine

We ride the Kibo 250 — a bike built specifically for Kenya’s rugged terrain. It’s tough, reliable, and ready for every challenge you throw at it. The perfect tool for an adventure that’s real, raw, and unforgettable.

7. Create the Story of a Lifetime

Anyone can book a safari. But riding across Kenya on a motorbike? That’s a story few can tell.

From the wild savannahs to misty mountains to the tropical coast, this is a journey that will stay with you forever.

You won’t just visit Kenya — you’ll live it.

Ready to Ride the Real Kenya?

If you’re looking for a safari that’s safe, easy, and boring — this isn’t it. But if you’re ready for real adventure, wild landscapes, and experiences that few travelers ever have, you’re in the right place.

👉 Check out our upcoming motorbike tours and start planning the ride of your life.
